Marriage is one of the most sacred institutions in India. Traditionally, parents and other family members have arranged marriages for their children based on caste, matching horoscopes, family status, or dowry. Over the past few decades, however, divorce rates have grown significantly. It would seem that the old way of doing things is no longer working -- but why? Drawing on her experience with hundreds of families struggling with marital discord, attorney and mediator Geetha Ravindra explores the breakdown of Indian marriage within a rapidly changing culture, explaining why the conventional criteria used to arrange marriages no longer ensure lasting, healthy relationships. With stories of how real Indian couples navigate a twenty-first-century world, Shaadi Remix: Transforming the Traditional Indian Marriage, provides guidance on alternative methods of choosing partners, as well as tips on effectively communicating and resolving conflict in marriage. Shaadi Remix is a must read for Indian parents, Indian youth contemplating marriage, and anyone who is interested in understanding the Indian marriage system. Geetha Ravindra offers readers a unique approach to the traditional Indian union-one that blends the important values of the Vedic marriage with contemporary and practical considerations.

Much Needed Book Not Only For Indian Immigrants to Any Country, but to all who wants to get Married
By Malur Vijay
As a First Generation Immigrant to USA, I have seen many Indian parents in America say that they came to USA for a better future for their children. Nothing wrong with that. But, many Indian parents wants their children in Western Countries to have everything.
What I mean by this is, the parents want their Children to be Westerners by Day & Easterners by evening. The First Generation Indian & many Eastern parents want their children to get A grades in School, want them to be valedectorians , go to Ivy League schools. They want them to be either only Doctors or Engineers & may be Attorneys. They want all the advantages of the West but still hang on to many of the Eastern Culture. Also, these parents are still stuck in the Time Zone of when the left their country.
The country they came from have moved on with many educational, cultural changes.
This is where many times the Hippocracy of the parents come in.
The children get so much confused as they are neither Westerners nor Easterners.
The parents make the children feel guilty that if they do not go back to the country their parents came from & get married to the same Caste, or religious group of their country, that they have done something real bad.
No wonder as Geetha says many marriages are ending in Divorce, both in USA & India. Reasons being that the the young people have not understood each other, nothing in common, and following the blind old traditions.
Educational and Financial independence for the ladies in East and West have made them not to take any more unwanted pain and misery in marriage. It is better to be divorced and be happier than being miserable and stay in the marriage.
Geetha has so beautifully illustrated with lots of research that she has done both in USA & India.
The only thing I see missing in this book is, in this century "Why Marriage". If Marriage, have you been explained all about the Good, Bad & Ugly of Marriage.
The question that every youth must ask themselves before they want to get married.
Weigh all the Pro's & Con's of Marriage. Not just get married because their parents did it, their grand parents did it, on and on.
This book is a must not only for the first generation of parents but also for anybody who is thinking of marriage.
This applies for immigrants children and all the Global youth who are thinking of marriage.
Bravo Geetha, you broke the ice of "Silent Suffering" of many Second generation children in West as well as East. Also will be an Eye Opener for the first generation and present generation parents.
M.R Vijay.

Marriages May Be Made in Heaven but the Real Work Starts Here on Earth!!
By Latha
Geetha Ravindra, does a good job of redefining what the new Indian marriage entails, in Shaadi Remix: Transforming the Traditional Indian Marriage. India is a country steeped in religious, cultural and social traditions and marriage comes in that category. Yet, marriages, are undergoing a transformation. Divorces are on the rise, abroad and in India. Expectations of marriage have changed as women also become more financially independent. This is not the previous generation definition of marriage.
Ravindra, explores all components of an Indian marriage and details case studies of marriages undergoing trials and tribulations. Mediation techniques are examined as well as possible questions and concerns before one enters the holy bond of matrimony.
This is a well researched book and one that I would wholly recommend to anyone, who is of Indian descent or who is interested in learning about the Indian community. Marriages may be made in heaven, but the real work starts here on earth!!

When I picked this book up to read it late one Sunday night. I absolutely was unable to put it down. I stayed up until I was finished. I felt like I was right there in each person's life as she described their experience. I admit a few small parts were sad, however the book left me with a great feeling of respect for family values. I would loved about ten more chapters. I am loaning this book to a dear friend who is close to seperation from his wife in hopes they are able to stay together. I am thankful Geetha decided to publish this book and share her knowledge.
