Best pamphlet for white nationalists ever

It's an honor for me to own copy #56 Michael O'Meara's recently published Toward the White Republic with O'Meara's personal inscription to me on the very first page.

This is the most powerful essay I've ever read showing why secession is our only hope to save the white race from extinction. Every time I go out and need to wait in a queue or something I get my signed copy and always rediscover something new by rereading passages of it. The first article of O'Meara's slim book completely boggled my mind when I first read it in The Occidental Quarterly a year ago. In Counter-Currents I wrote the below review:

O'Meara is absolutely right: A numinous [with "n"] vision always comes before galvanizing the collective unconsciousness, and the mere idea of a white ethno-state does reminds us the Latin saying "Thus I will, thus I command."

In the 16th century, the English believed they had replaced the Jews as the chosen nation: an important factor in American history which also helped Elizabethan England in their fight against Catholic Spain. O'Meara's powerful book demonstrates that what moves societies is not scientific fact, e.g., IQ studies of blacks versus whites, but myths. Only myths can galvanize the collective unconsciousness of a nation. Homer's epics captivated the minds of the ancient Greeks, not the geometric discoveries of the Ionian scientists and philosophers.

For John Winthrop, the previous American colonies had failed because they were carnal and irreligious. He believed that only an enterprise founded on religion had a chance to thrive.
Even if God doesn't exist and Christianity is ultimately false, Winthrop was right. In 1630 he led an exodus of his people to the new world. It is beyond doubt that the spirit animating these men and women was not economic but religious. A "City upon a Hill" watched by the world was the myth that galvanized the community.

In sharp contrast to present-day Americans' aid after the 2010 Haiti earthquake, once on American soil, Winthrop was delighted by the news that North American Indians were being decimated by smallpox. It was clear to the Puritans that God had accepted their right to occupy the land.

After the Reconquista generated the sense of a religious nation, something similar happened here down the South. The Catholic myth moved the Spaniards to conquer the Aztec and Inca empires.

Winthrop's success resolved a mystery for me. Why were the English so reluctant to establish themselves in America even a century after Columbus' discovery while the relatively more primitive Spanish and the Portuguese had already created vast empires? The answer is patently clear: The English lacked a truly galvanizing story that conferred upon them a definite self-image and consequent self-esteem.

Something similar could be said of the Great Awakening in America's 1730s. An awakening is what whites desperately need today, albeit one based upon a different kind of myth.

Toward the White Republic is more than a must read. Copies of this slim yet potent book could be given to your friends and acquaintances as part of the process of catalyzing white collective consciousness into another Great Awakening.

At the crossroads

The White man is the last of the bunch to catch on that we are moving into a multi-cultural world and today can be found thrashing around wondering what to do. O'Meara is one European Man not afraid to tackle the topic and in a series of essays examines the hopes and fears of his ethnic kin as he contemplates his new future. O'Meara's publisher offers the reader a charming little volume to match the ease with which the author's words flow through the mind. Well worth reading

In this collection of essays this very radical intellectual weaves history, philosophy and literature into a gripping assault on the modern world and goes farther than others in openly calling for subversion, revolution and secession. I highly recommend this provocative collection of essays.

About the Author

Mack Wilberg is the Music Director of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. He was appointed Music Director in March 2008, having served as Associate Music Director since May 1999. He is a former professor of music at Brigham Young University, where he received his bachelors degree; his masters and doctoral degrees are from the University of Southern California. In addition to his conducting responsibilities he is active as apianist, choral clinician, composer, arranger, and guest conductor throughout the United States and abroad. In addition to the many compositions he has written for the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, his works have been performed by artists such as Renee Fleming, Frederica von Stade, Bryn Terfel, The Kings Singers, and narrators Walter Cronkite and Claire Bloom. Wilbergs arrangements and compositions are performed and recorded all over the world. With their grandeur, energy, and craftsmanship, they inspire performers and audiences everywhere.

Great book! Can be printed on a home computer, so don't be put off by the patterns located on a cd, instead of paper patterns!

I have to say, this is one of my favorite sewing books I own, which is saying a lot, since I don't generally enjoy hand sewing. I grew up sewing clothing with a machine, and then took up quilting, and while I enjoy both of those pursuits, I was never interested in hand sewing anything until I read this book, and Natalie Chanin's take on clothing. I love the idea that clothing should flatter, feel comfortable, and be well made so that it lasts. I think the biggest reason I love this book is that the idea behind making a handmade wardrobe resonates with where I am in life right now; creating a wardrobe I love and that fits well means a lot more to me than chasing after the latest style fads. Not only that, but as a mom of 3 little girls, I want them to understand that we are each unique, and our worth is intrinsic, and not based on what we look like; as a result, it makes sense to dress our bodies in a way that flatters and makes us feel good about ourselves, and that celebrates who we are, instead of chasing fashion ideals that aren't realistic. That being said, I was initially disappointed when I popped the cd into my computer, only to discover that the pattern sheets were sized for a copy shop printer, and not my home printer. I have a home computer and printer, and I'm familiar with printing out pdf sewing patterns and taping them together, so I wasn't interested in going to a copy shop, and after playing around with it a little, I discovered how to print out the parts of the pattern individually (on 8 1/2 by 11 sheets of paper). After reading the previous reviews, and seeing people put off by having to print out the patterns via a copy shop, I wanted to weigh in and let you know that you Do Not need a specific tiling program to print off the patterns in 'tiles' to tape together (the book mentions this as an option, but it's not necessary if you have Adobe Reader, a free program that reads pdf. pattern files, which is the file format these patterns are stored as on the cd). Most of us already have Adobe Reader on our computers, and all you have to do is open up the file you want to print (in Adobe), go to: File, Print, and choose 'Poster' as the option for printing out the pattern. It should show you a picture of the layout of the pattern, broken up into tiles (to the right of your choices), and it should have a box that shows the tile scale, which should read 100%. I didn't change any of the measurements, printed it out using the Poster mode (to make it print the pattern out in tiles), and then double-checked the 2-inch square located on the first page of the pattern, and it was perfect! I tried this with the A-line dress pattern, and it worked like a charm. While I realize not everyone is interested in putting together paper patterns, or making a run to the copy shop, I just want to encourage those who don't mind printing patterns out at home that it can be done, and the patterns are well worth the time.

Another good Alabama Chanin book, but no paper patterns included.

I'll get to the review in a bit, but let me say this- there are no paper patterns included, unlike the previous three books, and unless you have a tiling program and know how to use it, you can't print the patterns out yourself. You have to find a print shop, which is why I'm giving this book 3.5 stars...more on this later.

First up, let me say that this is another fine book by Natalie Chanin. Her company, Alabama Chanin, designs and creates lovely garments, beautifully hand sewn and embellished. I have all of her previous books. Where Natalie really excels is in her ability to design simple, easily constructed garments that anyone, even a novice sewer, would feel comfortable in making by hand. The real art comes in the embellishing- paint, stencils, beads and embroidery- all of it simple but with stunning results.

This book is divided into 3 sections. The first section includes directions for (and plenty of pictures of) all the patterns published in the previous Alabama Chanin (A.C.) books. This includes the new patterns- an A-line dress in 4 lengths (top, tunic, knee-ish length dress, and maxi length dress), a coat pattern in 3 lengths (cardigan, jacket and classic coat length), and a wrap skirt in 3 lengths (short, classic and maxi skirt length). It then has photos, drawings and instructions for other garments from previous A.C. books. These include a fitted dress, a t-shirt, a bolero, a fitted skirt, a poncho, a camisole (princess seamed) dress/top/skirt, the corset top (my favorite), and a swing skirt. All are shown in various lengths/versions and all are easily adaptable.

The second section is on fit and customizing their patterns and purchased paper patterns (i.e., McCall, Simplicity, etc.). This includes handy information on altering everything from necklines to waistlines and hemlines, and how to measure for a perfect fit.

The third section is on basic sewing techniques and embellishments. The sewing instructions are indeed pretty basic but probably sufficient for most people - though I would have liked to see more on actually laying out the patterns on the fabric, something that even long time sewers can have issues with. It then shows some of the embellishment techniques used on the garments in the book.

One of the best parts is the index of design choices, at the end of the book. Each garment in the book is shown in a thumb nail sized photo and includes all the nitty gritty details for making that garment - from the pattern and any adaptations, to fabric choices and all the stitches used in both garment construction and embellishment. So, if you really like a particular outfit, you can easily recreate it with the given information. Another favorite is the use of various sized models of various ages and shapes, including a plus sized model. Overall I have to say I really like the book and have only one (major) regret.

There are no paper patterns at all, not even of the new garments. Yes, there is a cd of all the patterns, but whose decision was it not to include any paper patterns? I've had this book for several days now, and waited to review it so that I could be fair about this point. The previous 3 books included paper patterns and I expected this one would have the new patterns on paper, as well as the others on cd. The real salt in the wound was the casual aside - Take the cd to any print shop and have them print the patterns. They also state that unless you have a tiling program on your computer, it's not really possible to print them on your home printer. Honestly? I'm not going to shlep around looking for a print shop that will do this. I'm not sure about kinko's, etc., but most print shops won't want to be bothered with anything that isn't a large volume order. I truly didn't expect all the patterns to be printed on paper, just the new ones.

I honestly don't believe this was Natalie Chanin's decision. I may be wrong, but it seems like the kind of money saving decision a publisher would make, not someone who has spent so much time and effort encouraging others to create their own hand made garments. Part of the A.C. books appeal was the ability to take out the patterns from the back of the books and just start sewing. You didn't even have to buy fabric - the corset top is sewn from an old t-shirt. How great is that?

I know I might catch some flack for what some might see as a negative review. It really isn't negative. The whole appeal of the A.C. style is that everything from start to finish is designed for easy sewing and crafting. You open the book, see the gorgeously photographed clothes, can pick one out and dive right in because the pattern is right there. Not with this book. I'm such a fan though, that I still think this book is worth getting.

The good news is that the new patterns are simple enough to be recreated from the illustrations, previous A.C. patterns, or purchased paper patterns. If you've never sewn before or are a novice hand-sewer, get Natalie's third book, 'Alabama Studio Sewing + Design' first. It's the most in-depth of all four books and has more information on embellishment than all the others put together. It's my favorite. The other good news is that all three previous books are still available in print (brand new) and includes the patterns. Definitely worth it!

fantastic AC patterns & general guide on how to adjust patterns to fit your body.

After checking Natalie Chanin's last book out of the library and stitching one of the tops I pre-ordered this book and I received it in the mail yesterday afternoon. I have to say that I am not disappointed.

The patterns it contains are worth the price alone, but the book is filled with great info on adjusting patterns to fit your individual body that will be useable way beyond adjusting and constructing any one of the admittedly lovely patterns contained here. That is really what the bulk of the book is about.

The rest is a basic techniques section and stitch guide for processes that are used to make the garments,and instructions for garments -but don't expect a hand holding highly detailed step by step instruction guide to each project- there is enough instruction for folks who can work independently and refer to the techniques in the back, but
construction photos are not included, just finished garments and diagrams. (If you want to see it in action or need more instruction, I suggest taking Ms. Chanin's class on craftsy. )

This book has a great section in the back that names the techniques used in the garments that are photographed in the book-including fabric weight, thread color, which stencil was used, seam style, etc. That you can use to recreate the examples.

I haven't popped the CD into my computer yet to print off patterns, but I'm excited to do so. I'll update once I do.

***UPDATE*** so I have now printed the patterns from the CD, and they pop up as PDFs in adobe as single large pages- They are not automatically tiled like some you find nowadays. For those folks who think you need to head to the copy shop to print out a large sheet, you don't, its just a matter of changing your printer settings. Chose file> Print, and from the page scaling menu, select tile large pages. Then select cut marks and labels so you can organize the paged and so you can see where you tape your printed pages together as the edges overlap. Oh Wow!!! Spoilers!!!

It was so sweet. I adored the main characters. I did feel bad that he did not wait for her like she did for him and how he went and slept with the woman he married soon after the heroine told him she loved him when they were younger. I wish he would have divorced his wife and waited for her after that. I mean he made a mistake with that woman and it seems instead of trying to fix it and seeing if the heroine and him still had something, he continued to be with other women while the heroine stayed faithful to her love for him. It is always unfair that the heroes are man whores and the women are faithfully in love for life. That gets me fired up really fast. Why can't men just admit to love and stop sleeping around in these books??? I mean seriously, be a "man" and go after what you want and stop being such a darn coward!!

A wonderfully heart-warming and emotional, yet sexy romance, a MUST read!

One of the biggest (and best) surprises of 2012 was discovering Victoria James and reading her debut novel The Billionaire's Christmas Baby. So as you can see A Risk Worth Taking started with an unfair head start it had to measure up to its predecessor, and I am very happy and relieved to report that not only did it not disappoint, it was just as wonderful as Victoria James' previous novel!

A Risk Worth Taking is the first book in Victoria James' new contemporary romance series taking place in the small town of Red River and featuring the Manning brothers (Quinn, Jackson and Evan). A Risk Worth Taking is Quinn's, the eldest brother's story.

Our heroine, big city girl, successful interior designer Holly suddenly becomes the guardian of Ella, her little niece of 6 months when her sister and her husband are killed in a car accident. She goes back to renovate her childhood home and sell it to put the money in a trust for the baby and since Quinn is the local and successful contractor who will help her with her plans.

Holly was a heroine I not only liked but admired. She was ambitious yet warm-hearted and she took on the role of guardian of her orphaned niece even though she didn't know anything about babies or mothering. Not only was she grieving for her sister (and her husband), she also felt guilty for being the one alive to take care of Ella and scared that one day when was all grown up she would resent her and hate her because it was Holly who brought her up and not her own mother. My heart went out to her when reading about her grief and vulnerability, but her strength and how she tried to cope with these were admirable. Holly is all alone having lost her parents when she was little, then her grandparents who brought her up and now her beloved sister with whom she was so close, she doesn't have any other family than Ella, and all the loss and grieving sadly left their mark on her.

"A few weeks ago, he'd called her cold for selling the house. Now, he knew. The vulnerability that she tried so desperately to hide was staring him in the face. Holly was afraid. This place was her old house, but everyone she loved was gone. The memories were haunting her."

Quinn was a dreamy hero: all responsible and gentleman-like, and it didn't hurt he was swoon-worthy sexy either ;-)

Quinn and Holly go way back: they practically grew up together and Quinn was Holly's first crush and teenage love, and on her last night before leaving for college she declared her love, but he refused her.

"She'd been naïve and trusting--and told him that she loved him. He knew, looking into her eyes, that he loved her, too, but never said the words aloud. He didn't want to be the guy to hold her back. She'd been too young to know what she wanted for the rest of her life."

Although a decade has gone by the humiliation is still fresh in Holly's mind, and to make matters worse Quinn is even more drop-dead gorgeous than before. She feels her traitorous body reacting, melting to his proximity. Kudos to Victoria James, because the chemistry and attraction between Holly and Quinn was palpable, off the charts!

"Holly, do you know what I want to do right now?" Holly swallowed. Hard.
"Take a hot bath?" He shook his head and took a step closer. She could barely breathe.
"A hot shower?" He shook his head again and his eyes dropped to her mouth. Her lips parted involuntarily.
"Coffee?" she managed to whisper as she heard the beep signaling the brew cycle had finished. He shook his head again and stood a few inches away from her.
"I want to kiss you," he said, his voice deep, and then he gently took her wrist and tugged her toward him."I want to kiss you and taste you and never stop."

I loved Quinn's intensity, the strength and conviction behind his words were so powerful I could feel them resonate through the pages:

"Quinn turned, ready to leave, but then paused."I never kissed you the way I wanted to because I knew that if I did I wouldn't be able to stop. I wouldn't be able to get enough of you. And if I had thought for one second that you meant what you said that night, I would have come after you," he said."

There were lots of delicious sexual tension and sparks flying, but their relationship was so much more than just physical. Loved all the scenes where Quinn teased Holly, made me chuckle out loud.

And of course besides the romance aspect of the story I have to point out that A Risk Worth Taking is as much a story of a woman becoming a mother and a man finding himself a family as it is the story of how Holly and Quinn found love.

"Quinn's eyes opened slowly, and Holly held her breath. Her heart constricted painfully as his hand immediately went to smooth Ella's hair. And then his eyes landed on hers, filled with the emotion that she wanted to run from. He was the man that she could never forget--hard and strong, combined with that mix of tenderness that only he could pull off so well. He made her want to give up her solitary existence, abandon her career in Toronto. He made her want to believe that people stayed, that people lived, that love could conquer everything."

Verdict: A Risk Worth Taking had everything I loved in The Billionaire's Christmas Baby: it had just as much heart and heart-warming/heart-squeezing emotion, equally wonderful and lovable characters and a terrific, captivating romance with such a vivid chemistry that you could feel those sparks flying off the pages. A Risk Worth Taking has everything and more you could expect and want from a contemporary romance, with her captivating writing style, engaging characterization, witty humour and steamy scenes, Victoria James gifts us with another keeper. A Risk Worth Taking is a wonderful first instalment to this new series, I can't wait to read about the other Manning brothers. Readers, you'd better put A Risk Worth Taking on your to-be-read lists, trust me, you don't want to miss this series!

Definitely an author I'll keep my eye out for

I enjoyed this book. It was sweet, sad and emotional, with a healthy dose of unrequited love thrown in to the mix. I also really enjoy reading books set in Canada. I lived there for a year and loved it, so it's always nice to revisit it even if only in print.

Holly has been thrust into the role of parent to her niece Ella after the sudden & tragic death of her sister and brother-in-law. What I liked about how this was handled was that Holly wasn't made out to be some clueless dummy. She's like any new parent, getting through each day learning something new about this little person in their lives. It's just the method in which she becomes a parent that differs from most. I also really appreciated that there was no evil grandparents or aunts threatening to take Ella away.

Coming home after 10 years to find your contractor is the guy you made a fool of yourself over before you left would be a little mortifying. Quinn comes across as a really nice, thoughtful guy with a whole lot of sexy and heroic about him. He really wanted Holly back in the day, but didn't want to be what held her back from fulfilling her dreams. I like that this past event wasn't over-used as a source of conflict, as it quite often can be.

The romance between Holly and Quinn was slow-burning (well, 10 years is a pretty slow burn) and very sweet. Don't go into it expecting any crazy hot sexytimes, it's just not that kind of book. And it didn't need to be - the attraction played out at just the right heat level.

After a recent read where plot moppets were in abundance, I enjoyed reading a child in the storyline that was real and not just used to advance the plot artificially.

I have not read anything else by Victoria James, but based on this, she is definitely an author I'll keep my eye out for.
