A Thorough Exploration of Otherkin

Well, I've finally finished Lupa's "A Field Guide to Otherkin," and I must say that I am quite impressed. It is written from the perspective of an otherkin, but she has taken great pains to treat the subject impartially. There is a meaty Bibliography that those who wish further reading will find very useful.

Topics covered in the book include such things as theories of being 'Kin, including personal psychology, metaphysics, personal mythology, energetic resonance, and the genetic thoughts. Therianthropy, Vampirism, and several other types of 'Kin are mentioned in the book, and some types of 'Kin have whole sections devoted to them, with information drawn from collected surveys.

As to the surveys, having tried to gather research on a different topic before with this method for college, I can understand how hard it is to get a good sampling of any community. One hundred thirty one, including her own response, is far more than I ever got for my alienation report. I was very surprised by the breakdown of the 'Kin types that responded, for example I thought that there would have been far more kitsune than the single response from that type received, although the greater number of wolves I did expect. Perhaps some day she will have enough information and additional responses to put out a second edition.

Magic and Spirituality is also touched on this this book, and in quite a responsible and adult manner to my finding. Thoughts on how to become 'Kin to the Other as well as the possibility on how to stop being 'Kin are presented, and the same goes the the opinion of one unbiased psychologist.

One of the things that I liked best about this book is that the author highly stressed self-exploration, common sense, and a large dose of salt.

Whether one is 'Kin themselves, suspects that they may be, knows someone that is 'Kin, or just interested in the phenomenon and/or experience of being 'Kin, this book I would consider a must read.

Informational and Fun at the Same Time

I am in love with this book. I wasn't sure what to expect from a book about the Otherkin, but this exceeded all my expectations. It is concise, yet flowing and fun to read. It presents the material quite clearly, which is saying something when you consider how differently the opinions and theories and experiences can be in the vast and sometimes odd world of the Otherkin, Otakin, Mediakin/Soulbonders, and so on, just to name a few. It certainly helps clarify what forms the experience takes, even though the author is careful to say that she can't cover everything and that no one belief or opinion or theory about it is the Right One.

I hope, as the author also expresses the hope, that this bodes well for future books about Otherkin and what it means in our lives and society and spirituality. Greater acceptance, at the very least.

Highly recommended to those who already consider themselves Otherkin, Otakin, Otakukin, or Mediakin/Bonders, and to those who suspect that maybe this is what is happening to them. There are references to websites included, as well as info on conventions for Otherkin, and its a good place to start looking for others to get together with and to share experiences with.

Lupa, a wolf therian, member of the Otherkin community, and magician, has brought us a informational book regarding this unique subculture. Ranging from kitsune, to Vampyres, to elves, to dragons, to a wide variety of animals, Otherkin are alive and ready to be heard.

Using her wonderful "on the fence" writing style, Lupa has given us a well written and researched "Field Guide" for not only understanding those who might be Otherkin, but for possibly understanding ourselves.

Although the spiritual/magickal connections to being Otherkin are discussed, Lupa has done amazing research into the psychological connectioins as well. Science and magick have long been thought to be seperate, but they are indeed intertwined, and Lupa has brought them together wonderfully.

Besides Lupa's own wonderful research and writing, she has also included a guest essayist, and many wonderful quotes from personal correspondences and responses to a survey that she circulated in the Otherkin community.

If you have ever thought you might be something other than human, or you do any work in the magickal community, this book is a must read.

This book is a must buy if you are interested in your health.

I am in my late 60's and my family has seen our share of medical issues and have had plenty of dealings with the medical industry. I decided years ago I had better start managing my own health because no one else was going to do it for me. I started reading books written by doctors but nothing really got my attention until I read Protein Power by Eades. That book made me realize that all the conventional wisdom concerning eating, including our government approved food pyramid, was totally backwards. I changed my eating habits and the change in health and loss of excess fat was dramatic. Then I discovered the Life Extension Foundation, which does research and makes vitamins. They have had to battle the FDA and they have written many scathing articles critical of this organization. I came to understand that the FDA and the drug industry were much too closely connected to each other and drug industry profits were paramount and the health of the people came second. Anything that interfered with this system was crushed by our FDA, which has all the power of the federal government behind it. A person could be imprisoned for selling a food or vitamin and claiming that it would help some illness, even if it were true. A doctor could lose his license for treating a patient in any manner other than that approved by the FDA. It made no matter that the alternative treatment was working and the approved method was not. Then one day I stumbled upon Healthwyze.org. I spent the next two days reading articles on this website. I bought the products that they sold and found that they worked, especially the Byteback for insect bites. I bought their DVD titled The Cancer Report, which included the history of how the FDA and our medical schools were founded and financed by Rockefeller. I read about colloidal silver and how useful and safe it is and how to make it. I made a batch for less than $10 a gallon. My son had paid $10 an ounce for it and was using it to stop the progression of colds and ear infections in his 8 year old. He is now using the stuff I made for practically nothing thanks to their website. When they announced they were selling a book, I bought it the first day it came out. It is a compilation of articles on their website plus a whole lot more. Anyone that is interested in their health should read this book. They do not cut anyone any slack if they think what that organization or person is selling or doing is harmful. It doesn't matter if it is FDA approved or an alternative method. They are fearless and hard hitting. The information in this book will help guide you to better health and better ways to treat illness, accidents, and medical emergencies. I think every person in America should read this book. It is a tremendous eye opener. It just might save your life.

A book everyone needs!

Everyone needs this book on their shelf if they are serious about their health. To make a very long story short, I have been personally harmed by M.D.'s with drugs they had given me, so I turned to natural healing and never looked back! I did much research and purchased many alternative healing books while I was very sick and this was one of them. Historically, many good scientists who discovered tried and true healing methods have had their life's work destroyed by the AMA and the Big Pharma as it posed a threat to their money driven industry. The authors here have written a valuable book to help expose the medical fraud and deceit that exists today and offers valuable health solutions that I am very familiar with. This is one book to add to your collection as they meticulously research healing methods for your review. From someone who has been there and experienced the devastating effects of drugs as well as heavy metal toxicity, please do your research and do not let the negative reviews by the scaremongers make you hesitate as it just might cost you your life! Start taking responsibility for your own health.....you will never regret it! God bless you.

I love this book it is a great resource! Tons of information and truth, however there are just a couple of complaints that I have.. For one the people that wrote the book are Christian but they must be some sort of denomination. Like another reviewer said the depression chapter recommended a hypnotist type of healing and they also have some strange views on the bible. My second complaint is they do not use references. Maybe this is to intrigue readers to research and verify the information themselves I do not know (It worked on me if that was their plan) I have been researching things on my own also and the book is usually right on.. BUT I recommend this as being a guide to self healing. Do not take everything you read in without speculation, as that type of thinking got Americans into such trouble with believing health care lies, among other things. I DO highly recommend reading this book PLUS taking time to research topics on google on your own and make your own decisions about natural therapies or diet plans. This book personally changed how I viewed food and my body. I now have the tools to aid an open mind to live a healthy life and heal myself. Since reading I have changed my diet dramatically and helped family members and friends also make healthier decisions in their lives as well.

About the Author
MaKenzie McCroskey Jones has been writing since she was extremely young. Having always dreamed of creating her own stories and worlds, McCroskey Jones finally decided to write her first novel in 5th grade. After two years of handwriting The LaPaix Stone, she had completed her first 300-page manuscript. It was during the re-write process of the LaPaix Stone that she began to piece together an idea that would eventually become The Fall of Menevilen Series. Aside from writing, McCroskey Jones is a fan of reading, indie and alternative music, anime, and video games. She is an avid reader of young adult and fantasy novels. She was a member of her high school's yearbook staff for three consecutive years, and was the editor of the 2012-2013 school year. She has had an article co-published by PBS Newshour and Millennial Youth, won first place in her high school's annual writing contest in the short story category, and has received positive reviews about her books from an author in New York: "I love the concept and overall story line. I'm highly impressed with the Author's youth. Her innate ability to cultivate an engaging story, which leads the reader's mind to wander and naturally develop visions of these worlds, is well presented in her writing style." McCroskey Jones is currently enrolled at Missouri Southern State University with a major in English and will transfer to University of Missouri the following year.

Review of Fall of Menevilen

I was very in impressed with the writers ability to create a fictional world, and be able to ,with her command of words and the talent to weave those words into a vivid, very realistic...I feel like I'm there...place in your mind.
I am particularly intrigued that the plot so efficiently combined magic with action, suspense and romance. This all combined to make the characters come to life.
I feel this combination is especially astonishing because of her young age...it definitely reflects a much more mature writing style.
I am anxiously awaiting the next book.

This book was just so amazing! From the get go, I could not put it down for the life of me. For it's number of 472 pages, it was a nice fast read, especially since it was so captivating from the beginning. The characters were wonderful to discover, and the storyline absolutely wonderfully written.

About 50 pages before the halfway mark, you slowly discover secrets incorporated into the story. The more I read, the more shocked I got and the more I wanted to keep reading. The storyline was very original, and I absolutely loved it.

The characters were also very interesting and fun to discover. I loved the variety of personalities that were found in this story. My favorite character had to be Blade. His sarcastic personality was just perfect. I also liked Kain.

The storyline was most impressive. It was filled with twists and turns that I definitely did not expect. I got a lot of shocks reading this book, which is always good. MaKenzie had a way of throwing things at you when you least expect it, making the story that much more interesting.

The ending of Forsaken was just... so frustrating!!! the book is left off with a HUGE cliffhanger. I would really like to know what happens next. and CANNOT wait for the second book in the series. This is definitely a series that I will be purchasing paperback copies of. I am undeniably giving this book 5 out of 5 stars. :)

Had me hooked from the first sentence

This book is amazing! I was hooked from the first sentence. As I read this book I just kept getting more lost into the world of Kiara. This book has it all and is one of the best I've read. I felt as if I was right there with the characters...laughing, crying, scared, nervous, happy. All kind of emotions flooded through me as I read this book. Fantasy is my favorite genre and this book did not disappoint in the least. I will not give any spoilers, so you are going to have to take my word for it. It was difficult for me to put the book down and I cannot wait to read more from this author.

I give this book 5***** all the way around. I am one happy reader and I highly recommend this book.

Historical Deception

I bought and read this book and a number of others by this author. I was amazed at how historically correct his assertions were when I researched his conclusions. He opened many doors of which I was completely unaware . I believe he has greater credibility than most so called historical authors and has demonstrated the intestinal fortitude to speak out and stand out from the crowd. He reminds me of the amateur archeologist who discovered the ancient lost city of Troy. I highly recommend his work.

This book offers truthful explanations...

If you are looking for a truthful description of Ancient Egypt, this is a good place to start. Mr. Gadalla offers a very reader-friendly glimpse into the aspects of Ancient Egyptian society and the many contributions they have made throughout the world. Furthermore, he is attempting to dispell our preconceived -- and often misled -- notions surrounding Ancient Egypt. He also sheds a great deal of light onto the interrelated issues between Egypt and the early years of Judaism and Christianity. This is done in a forthright manner, but it is neither condescending or an attack against these religious faiths. After all, I feel that true love comes from knowledge and understanding, not from a sense of guilt or duty. Thus, no one should be offended by the truths he points out. This book should be read with an open mind. That is really all that is required of the reader. It is rather refreshing to have an unbiased lesson on a topic as broad and important as this.

Scott W. Santoro is principal of Worksight, a New York graphic design studio. He holds graphic design degrees from Pratt Institute (BFA) and Cranbrook Academy of Art (MFA). He is also a graphic design professor at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York, and is an active speaker on graphic design issues. Scott has served as vice president of the New York Chapter of the American Institute of Design (AIGA) and as a national screening committee member for design as part of the Fulbright program.
